WOMEN’S MONTH 2022
6 Women Leading Women in Voice Global
Written by Dr. Joan Palmiter Bajorek
Women’s Month is all about celebrating women and talking about gender equity and equality. Here at Women in Voice (WiV), our Mission is to celebrate, amplify, and equip women and minority gendered folks in the voice and conversational AI field.
Throwing wildly popular events such as WiV Inaugural Summit in 2021, WiV Global works hard to serve the community, make WiV shine, and keep the organization running smoothly today and years to come. With our 21 chapters around the world, the Women in Voice Global serves the whole community as a home base.
Who runs Women in Voice Global? 6 women who work at WiV full-time and part-time. These women run day-to-day operations at WiV supported by our Board of Directors and Advisors.
Dr. Joan Palmiter Bajorek, Founder and CEO of Women in Voice
Chances are you already know me as the #4 Influencer in Voice AI and seen me speak at events in our ecosystem. I launched WiV in 2018 and have seen it grow tremendously. We now have over 100 Ambassadors around the world. My career has shifted significantly from what I expected. I will champion Women in Voice for years to come, even when I’m no longer the operating CEO.
My Why: “From my first few days of getting to know the voice and conversational AI community, I wanted more support for women, gender minority folks, and BIPOC folks. It’s been fabulous to see the hunger and desire to participate from a global community.”
In 2021, our Female Founder Pitch Events has been one of the things I’m most proud of. Women told me “WOW! I hadn’t seen someone starting a company who looked like me!” That means the world to me about women rising and leading.
Maddy Apple, COO of Women in Voice
Powerhouse you are all getting to know and love, Maddy Apple is our COO here at WiV. She runs events, partnerships, and is the strategy behind much of our programming. Prior to WiV, she worked at a nonprofit and led membership, marketing, strategy, and educational work. She led virtual and in-person events for thousands of people.
Getting to Know Maddy: When I first hired Maddy, people were like “who is this person you hired.” Then they met her and got to see her in action and told me “OMG she’s so great to work with wow how did you find her.”
Maddy started as our Director of Global Events and we quickly realized we needed her at the decision-maker level. I’m honored to work with her and am so excited for her continued rise here at WiV.
Kayla Pitts, Head of Marketing and Membership
Kayla shone from Day 1 at Women in Voice. She eagerly finds storytelling and ways to transform images and events into a richer, deeper experience for our huge audience. Her creativity in images, copy, and videos have propelled our community to new heights. Previously to WiV, she executed but perhaps wasn’t really seen by her team. Here at WiV, she pitches projects and ideas that we are so excited to learn more about. When Kayla and Maddy spearhead work together, you know it’s going to be full of heart, community, and creativity.
Membership: I’m so proud of how Kayla has navigated new waters to launch Membership officially at WiV. While this was a whole new project for our community, Kayla deftly found stability in researching software and communicating beautifully with Romina and Ambassadors.
Kayla’s rise to the C-Suite is inevitable and we’re so jazzed for it. I’m grateful to learn and grow with her in how to better communicate and hand off tasks and projects.
Romina Pankoke, Chief Chapters Officer
Romina found WiV when she attended an event in the UK. Founding Women in Voice Germany with other Ambassadors in September 2019, Romina continues to lead locally and globally. She has always said “How can we support Chapters better? What about people who speak different languages? Will this work for people all around the world?”
Brilliant Colleague: Romina is phenomenal at execution, communication, and honesty. She gets the work done and talks about her boundaries.
Direct and Kind, Romina brings a warmth and genuineness to all her interactions. Even if the topics aren’t easy to talk about, I can always trust that she will tell me the truth and be willing to hear me out about where I’m coming from.
In her 360 degree reviews this year, one of my big questions was “What’s next for someone like you who is performing at the top of her game already?” We will continue to see amazing things from her. I’m honored to be her colleague.
Tamar Brown El, Accounting Administrator
When setting up Women in Voice, I didn’t fully realize how extensive a project it is to build an accounting practice for a 501c3 nonprofit from scratch. When she applied to work with us, her application said “I know accounting and want to upskill in the software you work with.” As a colleague, she is practical, direct, and compassionate.
Knowledgeable and Organized: When working with an external partner recently, we were told “Tamar is awesome. She knows her stuff and is doing a really nice job. Congrats to whoever hired her.” Well, we don’t have to be told that as we already know it. She gets us organized, creates processes, and works to keep us compliant with local and national government regulations. She’s a great communicator and fantastic at managing up.
Tamar is ambitious and excellent at earnestly caring about constructive criticism. In her 360 degree reviews, the team identified an area to grow in. We explored it together and noted how improving on would pay dividends for her personally and professionally. I’m so excited to see how she grows in both accounting and her phenomenal professional goals.
Jade Roberts, Video Editor
When Women in Voice Inaugural Summit had videos to edit, Jade was on it! The team saw how this intern worked quickly, communicated well, and advocated for what she wanted and needed. Her optimism and playfulness have always been inspiring. When she left us to pursue a Fullbright in Finland, we were quick to say how much we wanted to keep her in the loop and hopefully one day work with her again.
As our work continues to incorporate videos and host virtual events, we are delighted she came back as our Video Editor.
These are the 6 women who work at WiV full-time and part-time. We are so grateful to be serving this community. Women in Voice will continue to grow, shine, and thrive long into the future.
